Zoom Out | Life Series

The year has begun, and so has the chase to get to the finish line.

Less than a min.

Going over my list of objectives for the year felt overwhelming. So much to be done in so little time. Hours disappear into days, days into weeks and weeks into months, and before we know it, we’ll be staring back at the list on what got done.

If you have begun working on your New Year’s resolutions, and if those now seem to be challenging (after the high has settled), then you are not alone.

Don’t despair. Here, I am assuring myself too.

Some goals at face value may seem unreachable. But, in the large scheme of things, they lose their enormity.

The Earth is a tiny blue dot in the vast, never-ending universe.

Zoom out and try to get the widest possible view of your goals in the context of everything else around you.

It’s not too bad, right?

Be deliberate and chip away at your list, and in no time, you will be on the finish line. There will be bumps along the way and when that happens, remind yourself that there will be tomorrow.

Often, we overestimate our capacity to complete something in a small amount of time and underestimate what could get done in the longer term. Remember, it took us thousands of years to go from pigeon mail to instant messaging, and it took us millenniums to go from a simple wheel to autonomous vehicles.

Aim high, and if you miss some, you will still be fine.

One last thought – Do you know where you are going?

Thank you for reading.

Bye for now.
