At times, the world may seem unfair and unjust. Nothing may be going your way, and everything may seem to be slipping out of control. No matter what is happening in your life, some things are probably going well.
Read time: 1 min. Time to reflect – up to you.
We tend to take much of the blessings in our lives for granted. From the moment you wake up till bed-time, our lives are filled with blessings if we slow down and make an attempt to appreciate them.
Here are some small things to think about:
+ Do you sleep in a warm and comfortable bed?
+ Do you carry yourself around without assistance?
+ Does your house remain warm and cozy during winter, and pleasant during summer?
+ Can you turn the lights on with a flick of a button?
+ Do you get clean running water at all times?
+ Can you take a warm and pleasant shower whenever you want?
+ Do you wear clean clothes each day?
+ Do you live in a world without conflict and violence?
+ Can you go on with your lives regardless of your origin, colour, gender and religion?
+ Do you have loving parents, partner or spouse, siblings and friends?
+ Do you have a steady income?
+ Do you get weekends off? And if you do work during weekends, it’s not because you have to, but because you want to?
+ Can you breathe freely, enjoy the sun and rain and walk in the park?
+ Do you take a vacation once in a while?
If your answer is yes to some or all of the above, then you are one of the luckiest people on earth.
Things sometimes go sideways, and you may not have any control over the circumstances. You do, however, have control over how you react to what’s happening to you. If two things are not going well, there are probably eight other things that are going right. Focus on those. They act as the energy drinks, except they do not give you a sudden bolt, but a steady stream of strength and confidence to tackle whatever you are dealing with. Like the tortoiseshell, your roster of blessings could act as a shield when the going is tough and will give you the required strength to go on.
What are you most grateful for?
