I have been intrigued by this couplet penned by an anonymous 17th-century poet from the Indian subcontinent. Although it reminds me of my late father, it’s beyond all relationships, and it’s as relevant today as would have been then.

Over 500 hundred years ago in 1519 Hernando Cortez, the Spanish captain and explorer decided to seize the Aztecs, a mighty empire that had been around for thousands of years. Cortez took his soldiers and sailors and sailed south. Upon landing his fleet of ships on the shores of the Yucatan, the captain ordered his men to burn their own ships.

Name the biggest animal in the world.

While crafting your new goals, I gather you may have reflected on all the good times, and perhaps also on the not so good times. Good for you.
The Emperor’s New Clothes, a classic adaption from a 13th-century Indian fable was immortalized by Hans Christian Andersen first published in the early 19th century. The story is about an emperor who cares more about his appearance and posturing, hires two weavers, who to satisfy his vanity promise to make him the most elegant clothes worthy of an emperor that can only be seen by worthy men.
What was your most recent purchase? Did that replace something you already had? Perhaps a bigger and smarter phone? So very exciting. Do you recall your excitement getting the old item that you just replaced?
One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside us all. He said, “My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all. One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.” The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked: “Which wolf wins?”

I had accepted a new job in Toronto, the big TO, in 2006, and despite the excitement, leaving Florenceville, New Brunswick was unusually harder than we expected.
