Why Range Wins in Today’s World | Life

Have a range?

We admire the journey of Tiger Woods, who, as a young child, mirrored his father’s golf swing — putting in ten thousand hours before even becoming a teenager. The lesson? Start early, focus sharply, and success becomes inevitable. This approach suits golf perfectly, with its unchanging rules and immediate, precise feedback; repetition pays off time after time.

But life is not golf.

Consider Roger Federer, who dabbled in everything from tennis to soccer, squash, wrestling, and skiing. People labeled him as scattered and unfocused. Yet, he rose to become one of the finest tennis players of all time. Why? Because tennis is a complex arena. It thrives on competition and constant change; your opponent adjusts in real time, forcing you to think on your feet.

Business and life share that same chaotic nature. The rules shift, patterns can vanish overnight, and feedback can be delayed or, worse, misleading.

Today, artificial intelligence is shifting the landscape faster than we can keep up. A report from McKinsey suggests that as much as 50% of work tasks could become automated by 2030. AI has the potential to uproot the very foundations of expertise we once relied upon for gaining skills and experience.

So if you’ve explored various interests, don’t worry — you might be right where you need to be.

Ask yourself: what if your eclectic mix of interests isn’t as random as it seems? What if there’s an unseen thread weaving it all together?

I’ll be back with more next week.

Stay tuned.
