Are you comfortable in your golden cage?
Once upon a time, there lived a merchant at the far end of the Arabian oasis. The merchant kept a talking parrot in a golden cage, whom he loved very much. The bird, however, despite the luxury and comfort, longed for freedom. One fine day, the merchant had some business in the land of the Far East, near the forest. Before traveling, the merchant asked if the parrot wanted anything from its homeland. The parrot requested he tell the forest parrots it was happy yet missed them.
Upon seeing other parrots in the forest, the merchant passed on the message from his parrot. Upon hearing this message, one wild parrot fell lifeless from its perch. The merchant returned home and shared the sad event. Hearing it, his own parrot collapsed in apparent death. The merchant was shocked and sad, and opened the cage to bury the parrot. As soon as the cage door was open, the parrot sprang up and flew to freedom.

No one can open your cage for you. Well-meaning people (like the merchant) may even keep you in a “golden cage” of their expectations or your own comfort. True freedom comes from taking a brave leap, leaving behind the safety of your comfort zone to embrace the uncertainty and responsibility that freedom brings.
I’ll be back with more next week.
Stay tuned.
